Bondi Road

Sydney’s seaside Eastern Suburbs are full of wonders and a walk along the iconic Bondi Road usually sent my mind alight with lyrics bursting out in every direction. Especially the awe inspiring walk around the cliffs from Bondi to Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly and even Coogee if you’re keen. I wrote this song on just such a walk. It was at a low point in my life and it crossed my mind to “leave my troubles behind” a few times. Where would it happen? “Around Tamarama’s always nice”. Being an avid surfer, I thought, at least the “ocean knowns my name”. Maybe there, off that cliff so the ocean can welcome me. Happy to report, I’m still here (as of this writing). But I loved writing this song and found it to be a much needed therapy to get it out of my head and into song. I hope it helps someone. – Stevie J

BONDI ROAD

Stevie J Mayer

I’m walkin’ down Bondi Road
I see the waves crash on the cliffs
Think I might do the same

Around Tamarama’s always nice
The wind blows hard & cold as ice
And the ocean knows my name

If I could fly tonight, wouldn’t it be nice
Then I could lighten up this load
If I could fly tonight, fly high and bright
Then I could leave my troubles behind on Bondi Road

Now I broke the rules once or twice
But I’ve done my time a thousand times
And there’s no place left to run

And now as I look back on my life
My youthful ways have led me blind
From my seasons in the sun, so my friend

If I could fly tonight, wouldn’t it be nice
Then I could lighten up this load
If I could fly tonight, fly high and bright
Then I could leave my troubles behind on Bondi Road

INSTRUMENTAL

Ooh yeah
If I could fly tonight, I could make things right
Then maybe I could start again
Yeah, if I could fly tonight, fly high and bright
Then I could leave my troubles behind on Bondi Road

Ooh wish I could leave my troubles far behind on Bondi Road
Yeah I’m gonna leave it all behind
On Bondi Road
