When You Know What You Want

A story about a stunning lady who used to visit me regularly at one of my piano bar gigs. Her devastating beauty hit me like “a gatling gun”. The “stampede” reference is the flood of male eyes caressing her and in total envy of me as when we’d walk down the street. She was like a “supernova”. Everyone looked! She was very confident and forthright and “woke me from my coma”, reminding me that what I really wanted was within reach.

On the music front; I wanted to capture the sassiness of her vibe and confident cheeky swagger with an infectious groove. I hear it somewhere between The Rolling Stones’Brown Sugar and Tumblin’ Dice. – Stevie J

WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

Stevie J Mayer

Jenny was a stunner, lived down by the bay
Set my heart aflutter, gave me cause to pray
Every time we’d go out, she’d cause a stampede

And she said
When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need
Yeah she said
When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need

She woke me from my coma, with a gatling gun
Like some supernova, brighter than the sun
When I was stuck on the mill, dying by degrees

And she said
When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need
Yeah she said
When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need

[INSTRUMENTAL]

She said now listen boy…
You know that little thing called love
Well it don’t matter
At least not much to me
I don’t want no pitter-patter
And I don’t want a bended knee
Now that we’re clear as mud
And we’re both agreed
As she smiled at me and said…

Now you know what I want
Come and give me what I need
Then she moved a little closer
And I know what you want
Boy I’m gonna give you just what you need
Woo… come and get it boy!

[INSTRUMENTAL]

Yeah she said…
When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need
I believe, I believe
When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need
Ooh, let me hear you sing it now

When you know what you want
Then you’ll get just what you need
